Seventeen years in the making - pre-order now

Something special has been in the making.

Last summer, I gathered two musicians I deeply admire in the studio — Grammy Award-winning pianist Sullivan Fortner and legendary Catalan drummer Jorge Rossy — and we recorded what became one of the most rewarding musical experiences of my career.

The music is a mix of my own compositions, pieces by Bill Evans, and a selection of standards — some well-known, some less so — all in fresh arrangements that gave us space to truly listen and respond to each other. The result will be released on Hobby Horse Records in March.

Back in 2008, Sullivan Fortner and I were classmates in the first year of the master's program at the Manhattan School of Music. We were in our early twenties, playing everything we could get our hands on, figuring out what kind of musicians we wanted to become. Even then, it was obvious Sullivan was something special. After that year together, he came in and played on my debut album — Please Recycle with the Richard Andersson Sustainable Quartet, featuring Tony Malaby on saxophone and Rogerio Bocatto on drums. He was remarkable on that record, and I remember thinking: this guy is going to go far.

He did. Three Grammy Awards later, Sullivan Fortner is widely regarded as one of the finest pianists in jazz today.

We stayed in touch over the years. Every time Sullivan came through Copenhagen, we'd reconnect. And for a long time, I kept thinking: we need to make another record together. Last summer, the moment finally arrived — Sullivan was in town for a festival, Jorge Rossy happened to have a day free, and we went into the studio.

Jorge is no stranger to my world either. We've released music together before — the trio album Inviting with guitarist Per Møllehøj — and he appeared as a vibraphone soloist with my band NOR at the Reykjavík Jazz Festival. Having him on drums for this session felt completely natural.

To celebrate the release, I'm opening pre-orders today — with some exclusive perks for those of you who want to be part of this from the beginning.

As a pre-order subscriber, you'll immediately receive a link to a live studio video — one of the tracks from the session, filmed right there in the room where the music was born.

Support means a lot to me as an independent artist, and your contribution makes a real difference. When you pre-order, you're helping fund the recording, mixing, mastering, artwork, and distribution — all handled by people I trust and have worked with closely.

Your support is what gives me the freedom to stay independent and keep full creative control over my music. This is how I can make the album the way it deserves to be made.
