I hope you’ve had a great summer! Mine ended with a week at the legendary Summer Session, a workshop for professional jazz musicians primarily from Denmark, but also with participants from countries like Norway, Sweden, and Austria.
In the combo I joined, we had Ivonne from Vienna, Lubos from Prague, and the rest—Niles, Rasmus, Kristoffer, Lasse, and Claus—from Denmark. What a fantastic group of people and musicians! Our instructor was the great drummer Nasheet Waits, who brought along a pile of inspiring music. As always, I had to learn everything by heart, which was challenging at times, but I managed to pick up the tunes fairly quickly.
In these situations, the other musicians are often amazed at how fast I can memorize, but for me it’s simply how I work. During the week, a running joke started about me and my Meta Smart Glasses, which I used for recording videos and photos. Whenever I entered the room, Claus would call me Agent 00SmartGlasses. Haha! At one point, people even joked that I had assistants feeding me the music through the glasses as we went along (since they can actually take calls). Double haha!
I really hope to play more with these musicians again.
Right now, I’m preparing for a series of school concerts around Denmark with my solo project Richard Andersson U·Synlig. Next week, I’ll play nine shows, and at the end of September I’ll perform six concerts at the LMS Festival, which gathers many bands playing for school children. It’s going to be a lot of fun, I’m sure.
On a more personal note, our house is still out of use after the fire. Getting all the permits for rebuilding takes much longer than expected, but hopefully it will be ready by March next year when our temporary housing ends. While moving things around, I realized just how many CDs and LPs I actually have in storage. I’m considering making some special offers soon, so stay tuned. And if you have any ideas for bundles or offers you’d like to see, please reach out—I’d love your input!
Upcoming releases
For the first time, I’m releasing a record on my label that I don’t play on myself. This one is by the wonderful pianist Rasmus Kjær (yes, the same Rasmus from the combo). Rasmus has also been my assistant for the past eight years, helping me with the tasks I can’t easily manage myself.
The recording features ECM saxophonist Nicolas Masson and drummer Noé Franklé, both from Switzerland, where Rasmus lived for some time. The record will be released on October 31st, and they’ll be playing two concerts in Denmark on November 1st and 2nd.
You can already pre-save the first single, Slow Swell (out September 5th), here.
Orders to the USA
My postal provider, PostNord, is suspending shipping to USA and Puerto Rico due to upcoming tariffs. This means that I will no longer be able to ship CD's and LP's to listeners in the USA.
Again, if you have suggestions for how I can best get my CDs and LPs out to you, please drop me a line!
Wishing you a wonderful September.
All the best,
Richard
