New Releases: Monk & More featuring Rudi Mahall, Artur Tuznik & Kasper Tom

Today is a special day on more than one front.

Our house, which burned down just over a year ago, is finally being rebuilt — and today we're celebrating the raising of the roof timbers. In Denmark, this is a tradition called a rejsegilde, and it marks a major milestone in construction. Friends and craftspeople are gathering throughout the day, and we'll be eating hotdogs, drinking a beer, and playing some music to bring good energy into a house we hope will stand for many decades to come.

But today is also release day for Monk & More, and it feels fitting that two such joyful occasions should fall on the same day.

The album is out now, and the reviews have been incredible.

Monk & More features compositions by five of the most adventurous and distinctive voices in jazz history: Thelonious Monk, Lennie Tristano, Jimmy Giuffre, Lee Konitz, and Ornette Coleman.
Together, their music represents jazz at its most imaginative — and it was both a joy and a challenge to bring it to life.

Here's what Bluebird Reviews had to say:

"One tribute to Monk's incredible artistry that will prove to be one of the most inspired ones in the last decade or so of jazz music — due to be released on March 27th by four of the most skilled and experienced jazz musicians in Europe."

From the tour

Touring this music was an unforgettable experience. We played in some remarkable venues: a minimalist concrete room beneath Warsaw's central train station, a small intimate club in Berlin, and a grand chamber music hall in Katowice, Poland. Everywhere we went, audiences responded with incredible warmth. These are songs that have been played thousands of times in countless versions, and yet something in our interpretation seems to resonate in a fresh way. That means everything to us.

Speaking of which: I've been thinking about pricing lately. Last year I released five albums across streaming, CD, and vinyl, and I've been keeping prices around €20 for CDs and €30 for LPs. But I'd genuinely love your feedback: is that too much? I'd rather send more copies out into the world than squeeze a little extra margin per sale. I'm also considering bundle deals — perhaps an extra CD or LP when you order a new release. Please do write back with your thoughts.

Coming up: Copenhagen Jazz Festival

We're currently booking shows for the Copenhagen Jazz Festival. Confirmed dates so far include Christiania Jazz Club, Tårnby Hovedbibliotek, and the Barefoot stage. I'll keep you posted as more is confirmed.

Now, I'm off to the rejsegilde. There's a hotdog with my name on it, a cold beer, and some music to play. I hope the house soaks it all in.

I hope you have a wonderful day too.
